The Opportunity

Cruise Control Recruitment has been engaged to find a Maintenance Manager to spearhead maintenance operations at a premier manufacturing facility in Birmingham, West Midlands for a global manufacturer of high-value engineered products.
How You'll Make an Impact
This is a site leadership role for someone who enjoys full accountability for planned, reactive and project maintenance in a fast-paced manufacturing environment producing high-value products — and who can motivate a large multi-skilled engineering team to deliver operational availability and continuous improvement.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will bring industrial or heavy-engineering experience, a hands-on management style, strong technical credibility and the leadership skills to develop engineers across a wide range of experience levels.
What You Will Be Doing
• Manage the maintenance team, including supervisors, across a 24-hour operation — typically 6 direct and around 30 indirect engineers.
• Oversee planning and delivery of all planned, reactive and project maintenance across the site.
• Build a culture of proactive maintenance over reactive firefighting.
• Implement, monitor and report departmental KPIs and performance indicators.
• Develop the CMMS so work is planned, logged, completed and recorded accurately.
• Lead planned shutdowns to ensure all scheduled works are completed safely and on time.
• Promote a strong Health & Safety culture across the engineering function.
• Work with the Maintenance Planner on labour allocation across shifts to maximise plant availability.
Skills & Experience
• Qualified in an electrical or mechanical discipline to HNC level or equivalent.
• Proven maintenance leadership in a fast-paced industrial or heavy-industry manufacturing environment.
• A true engineer: problem-solver, mentor and hands-on when it matters.
• Approachable leader who can drive performance from a large engineering team.
• Champion of continuous improvement for process and equipment.
• Excellent communication skills with production, engineering and senior stakeholders.
• Health & Safety qualifications (ideal).
The Package
£70,000+ basic, plus bonus, car scheme and health insurance. Monday–Friday days, leading maintenance across a 24-hour manufacturing operation. Based at a premier facility in Birmingham, West Midlands.
