Director of Trade Compliance (Metals and Forging, Europe)
Salary: £90,000 to £100,000 per annum plus comprehensive benefits.
Location: Based out of Swansea, Hereford, or Birmingham (UK).
Segment: Metals and Forging.

Cruise Control Recruitment has been engaged to conduct the search for a Director of Trade Compliance (Metals and Forging, Europe).
We are seeking a Director of Trade Compliance to oversee and manage critical trade compliance activities across our dynamic business segment spanning the UK, EU, and Australia. This pivotal role reports directly to the Director of Trade Compliance for a division within the company and places you at the forefront of ensuring adherence to complex international regulations in the high-stakes metals and forging sector.
The Opportunity
As the Director, you will be the key authority and resource for trade compliance across multiple manufacturing plants, offering expert guidance on complicated import/export transactions and maintaining rigorous standards across the globe.
Key Responsibilities & Impact
Your expertise will be crucial in a wide-ranging role that includes:
Global Oversight: Supporting trade compliance for plants in Scotland, England, Wales, Czech Republic, France, Western Australia, and New South Wales.
Regulatory Mastery: Monitoring and enforcing compliance with local national security, dual-use regulations, economic sanction programs, and the U.S. ITAR/EAR regimes. License Management: Preparing and submitting export/import license applications via applicable government portals. Empowered Leadership: Potentially serving as an Empowered Official with the authority to make critical export compliance decisions. Auditing & Corrective Action: Leading internal audits, identifying non-compliance, and collaborating with plant teams to implement timely and effective corrective actions. Guidance & Training: Providing expert support and guidance to local trade compliance staff and ensuring effective compliance training programs are implemented across the division.
What You Will Bring
The successful candidate will be a seasoned professional with a deep regulatory background:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Aerospace Engineering, International Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Experience: A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in Trade Compliance, with a strong preference for knowledge of U.S. ITAR and EAR.
Proven Skills: Demonstrated experience in preparing and submitting export license applications across UK, EU, and Australian government portals. Jurisdictional Support: Proven ability to support multiple manufacturing plants across multiple international jurisdictions.
Regulatory Acumen: Strong understanding of dual-use and military export controls, economic sanctions, and import regulations. Preferred: Experience managing trade compliance teams across multiple locations and familiarity with OFAC regulations.
