About the Role
Role Overview
Cruise Control Recruitment has been engaged by an established civil engineering and infrastructure contractor to find a permanent Document Controller for its Birmingham office. You will run document control across live projects so that drawings, technical records, QA evidence and handover information are correct, current and traceable, working to ISO 19650 and client CDE protocols. You will be the link between site, engineering, commercial, design, supply chain and client teams.
Technical Environment & Stack
- CDE platforms (client-specified and internal): Business Collaborator (BC), Asite, Viewpoint/4P, Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM360, DocElite, SharePoint
- Standards and protocols: ISO 19650, ISO 9001, BIM Execution Plans (BEPs), Information Management Manuals/Protocols, client CDE protocols
- Controls you will run: metadata, revision status codes, naming conventions, document numbering, transmittal logs, approval and review workflows, Superseded vs Current status
- Documents you will handle: drawings, ITPs, RFIs, NCRs, permits, method statements, test records, correspondence, certifications, O&M manuals, as-built data, warranties and asset information
- Office tools: Excel and Word for registers, reporting and dashboards
Core Responsibilities
- Run day-to-day document delivery across the project CDEs, keeping metadata, revision status codes, naming conventions and controlled issue workflows in line with project protocols.
- Administer approvals, review cycles and comment resolution, and chase overdue reviews, approvals and unclosed comments with internal teams and the client to keep the programme on track.
- Apply revision control, transmittal, numbering and traceability rules to ISO 19650 and project BEPs, file QA records to the defined CDE metadata and folder structure, and support internal, ISO 9001, ISO 19650 and client audits and corrective actions.
- Quality-check document registers, approvals and CDE records (Superseded vs Current), report overdue actions and review turnaround weekly to the Document Control Manager, and produce weekly and monthly status and compliance dashboards.
- Prepare and quality-review handover information (O&M manuals, as-built data, warranties, certificates and asset information) and archive it to company data governance rules.
- Act as first-line CDE support for project engineers, site teams and the supply chain, including subcontractor onboarding, permissions, naming rules and approval routing.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Document Controller experience with a civil engineering contractor or main contractor.
- Working knowledge of live construction documentation: drawings, ITPs, RFIs, NCRs, permits, method statements and test records.
- Strong hands-on CDE skills on platforms such as Business Collaborator, Asite, Viewpoint/4P, ACC/BIM360, DocElite and SharePoint.
- Strong Excel and Word, accurate metadata handling and structured filing.
- High accuracy to deadlines, and clear communication with engineering, commercial, quality and client document control teams.
- Driving licence and CSCS card.
Desirable
- A qualification in construction, information management or administration.
- ISO 19650 awareness or information management training.
Remuneration & Package
- Salary: £35k - £47k (DOE) plus benefits
- Location: Birmingham, with travel to projects as required
- Contract: Permanent
