The Role: Lead Maintenance Engineer

Location: East Kilbride, Scotland

Reporting to: Engineering Manager

You will be responsible for leading a small, multi-skilled team of maintenance technicians, playing a pivotal role in ensuring the efficiency and reliability of our automated systems and facilities at the East Kilbride depot.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of maintenance technicians to achieve optimal performance and adherence to safety standards.

Maintenance Planning: Plan, schedule, and execute all preventive and reactive maintenance activities for complex automated conveyor systems and facility infrastructure. Contractor Management: Supervise external contractors, ensuring all on-site work is completed safely and to specification.

Technical Expertise: Serve as the primary point of escalation for troubleshooting and resolving complex mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic faults.

Reporting & Strategy: Prepare and deliver accurate daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports to key stakeholders.

Compliance: Conduct regular security and safety audits, ensuring continuous compliance with all relevant regulations.

Continuous Improvement: Proactively contribute to and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and operational efficiency.

Resource Management: Effectively plan and allocate resources (personnel, materials, budget) to meet maintenance demands.

 

What We're Looking For

We are seeking a proactive and technically proficient leader with a strong background in automated logistics or production environments.

 

Essential Skills & Experience:

Qualification: Minimum Level 3 engineering qualification (e.g., C&G, NVQ, HNC) in an electrical or mechanical discipline. Leadership: Proven, demonstrable experience in managing or supervising a maintenance team or department. Automation: Significant hands-on experience working with and fault-finding on automated conveyor systems. Technical Proficiency: Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems (e.g., PLCs, motor control, hydraulics, etc.). Soft Skills: Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage conflict and drive team performance. Work Ethic: Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a wider engineering team.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

Recognized Health & Safety Qualification (e.g., IOSH or NEBOSH).

 

Compensation & Benefits

Salary £46,000 to £47,000 per annum

Overtime Paid overtime opportunities available

Working Hours 39.17 hours per week (Days)

Shift Pattern Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:00

Weekend Rota 1 in 3 Sundays, 07:00 – 12:00
