Press Technician
Birmingham Salary: £53,000 - £55000 + Overtime + Specialist Training + OEM Courses Shifts: 4 on 4 off (Days)
We have an exciting opportunity for a Press Technician position within our Forge Department. This role reports directly to the Forge Production Manager and operates on a full continental shift pattern (FC), including 12-hour day and night shifts.
Purpose of the Role
To provide dedicated machine operation and planned maintenance support across the plant and equipment. Your primary responsibility will be the safe operation, upkeep, and continuous improvement of the Hydraulic Press.
The role is strongly focused on planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and project work, supporting a “Right First Time” and “Zero Harm” culture to ensure long-term equipment reliability and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Operation: Operate the Hydraulic Press safely and efficiently in line with operating procedures and production requirements.
Preventative Maintenance: Carry out planned maintenance activities, ensuring schedules are adhered to and continuously improved.
Project Support: Assist in project-based maintenance and improvement activities, including upgrades, overhauls, and reliability initiatives.
Reactive Maintenance: Perform corrective maintenance when required, minimizing downtime and restoring equipment safely.
Technical Scope: Work on a broad range of equipment, including: High-pressure hydraulic systems (valves, pumps, cylinders, pipework). Heavy component removal and replacement. Hydraulic and/or electrical fault-finding.
Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to optimize machine availability.
Problem Solving: Actively participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and reliability reviews.
Safety & Improvement: Promote high standards of health and safety and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency and best practices.
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
Strong understanding of planned and preventative maintenance principles.
Hands-on experience with hydraulic and/or electrical systems. NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Hydraulic Engineering. Proactive, safety-focused mindset with strong attention to detail.
Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced production environment.
Desirable
Experience in a heavy industrial or forging environment.
Experience supporting maintenance projects or equipment upgrades.
